Kit for the Sony A7S

At Westside AV we design and make add on parts for professional video cameras. We make shoulder braces, mounts for batteries, microphones, and monitors.

We’re at the beginning of our fifth year making camera equipment. Olof started designing parts when a popular camera came out that had a very weak attachment from the camera to the tripod. He designed a base plate in CAD software, took it to a local machinist, had a few made and anodized black, and we put it on the internet with a paypal button. We were astounded when orders started coming in from all over the world and we realized that Olof had found something that demanded all of his skills in design, craftsmanship, and understanding of cameras. 

What we like about our business is working in our studio in the White Mountains in northern New Hampshire, making useful products our clients need to do their work.  We also like working with aluminum which is abundant and recyclable. Machining metal is a clean, non chemical process and it is very much hands on craftsmanship. We mill, tap, and polish our pieces ourselves in our workshop.

Our market is specialized and world wide, so we have shipped our products from Yellowstone to Guam, Tasmania, Mauritius, Singapore, Moscow, Cambodia, Australia, New Zealand and Europe. When the phone rings or an email comes in it can be from anywhere in the world and we will always be amazed that someone on the other side of the world can access our web store and send us a payment in any currency for a piece they trust will be well made and serve their needs. 

Olof has been working with cameras professionally since he was a teenager. We’ve been doing video production together in New Hampshire for over 20 years so all the gear we make is tested in the field by us. If it works for us we know it will work for our clients.

Our clients are interesting people doing creative work, we enjoy talking with them and we do all we can to support them. Olof is very knowledgable about camera technology and he freely shares his knowledge on the internet and with clients who call with questions. He uses Skype to communicate with clients overseas who have questions about gear.

We also like that when our business does well it helps other small businesses as we have larger parts runs produced by a small machine shop 1/2 a mile down the road from us and our anodizing is done by a small shop in Maine. We buy electronics from a small business outside Boston and other parts from various businesses like ours.

Above is our Odyssey 7Q Hood with the 4 inch Sun Hood. The Hood is a 2 part system consisting of a plastic Screen Protector and either a 4 or 8 inch fabric Sun Hood.

This is our Odyssey Mounting Bracket which attaches your Odyssey securely to the Sony FS700.

Finally, the FS700 kit

It's been a busy summer for us. Olof received his Sony FS700 and we have been working on video shoots plus Olof has been designing a shoulder kit for this camera. It took some time to work out the best possible way to build a kit to shoulder this camera comfortably but it is done and we are able to start shipping this week. There are EVF solutions for the Zacuto, the smallHD (DP4, I think) and the Alphatron EVF. The handle extension has already been popular, it is available on our web store with 2, 3, or 4 rosettes. The rosettes are available separately.

Here it is on our Sony EX1R. The new shoulder brace kit our clients have been waiting for. Everything is adjustable for comfort. Move the shoulder brace back and forth. The EVF bracket is adjustable for any position. The kit makes all day shoulder work much more comfortable, since the weight of the camera is right on your shoulder. It is available now.
